John McKendrick

Without sufficient resources to procure a Ferrari for his midlife crisis, John McKendrick decided instead to complete a bike ride across the roof of the world from Lhasa to Kathmandu. Following an ever-so-brief and eventful “training program” in lowland Scotland, Mr. McKendrick completed his trip of a lifetime in the Spring of 2007, thus rekindling his long-lost love affair with the bicycle. He has since published two books on road hill climbing in Scotland and is now working on a third book with a UK focus.

When he is not on two wheels, Mr. McKendrick is a senior referee in professional football in Scotland. He has refereed over 300 top-flight matches and officiated at every senior ground in Scotland. To pay the mortgage, he lectures at Glasgow Caledonian University in the Social Sciences. His specialist research interests are in the fields of child poverty and children's play.
