“The spare, evocative text paired with the warm art has the feel of a classic, as the book is sure to become.”

Bedtime books are a crowded corner in any bookstore or library, so it takes something truly exceptional to rise above the masses. As Babies Dream is just such a book.

The text is simple and spare, but all the more effective for the care with which each word is chosen. The art is both cozy and detailed, engaging but not distracting. Together the two work to carry the reader through a landscape rich with animals, all settling down for the night. Starting with “As the crows fly and the rivers flow, As the eagles cry and the winds blow,” the pages bring us into the growing darkness, until “As the stars gleam high up above, the babies dream safe in our love.”

The rhythmic lilt has just the right measured cadence to lull even the most reluctant child to sleep. The spare, evocative text paired with the warm art has the feel of a classic, as the book is sure to become.
