If there is such a thing as a platinum standard for books of this genre, then Volez Voguez Voyagez reaches that level and possibly even stretches beyond. This monograph is nothing short of exquisitely executed and conceived as well as being exhaustively and painstakingly thorough in tracing the brand’s DNA, history, and raison d'être. One might call this the definitive volume on the subject of Louis Vuitton, the brand.

Make no mistake here as the book, which is photocentric, must be read to be fully appreciated and will also leave the reader with enough information and background about the brand that even the most informed might not have previously known.

For instance, you might not have known that Vuitton made trunks for the purposes of all modes of transportation, has had a signature perfume since 1927, and has used materials as varied as wood, leather, canvas, paper, and aluminum.

A favorite tidbit of information is that the store sent its most valued customers a thank you that consisted of a miniature Louis Vuitton trunk to serve as flower pot for fresh flowers. Perhaps another candidate for that category would be the trunk that contained a fold-up mattress that served as a cot for travel.

One of the most striking aspects of this amazing tome is that the contents are not arranged by just the calendar dates. The contents, also serving as the catalog for the LV show that took place at the Grand Palais (December 2015–February 2016), is arranged by modes of transportation. The reason is that Vuitton was founded as a company whose primary focus was travel and “specialty packing for fashion.” In other words the book begins with what we would consider primitive or third world transportation and proceeds to air travel as we know it today.

If there is a reader who wishes to be absolutely fully versed in all that is Louis Vuitton, this is the book for you. If there is a book aficionado who treasures the art of the printed book, then this is a book that must find its way to your library shelves. Lastly, this is a book that will educate, impress, and inform the most worldly of fashionphiles, leaving them with astounding background information that is the all-encompassing world of Louis Vuitton, its lineage, and heritage.
