Master Artisans of the Grands Ateliers de France is not your typical coffee table book. If it is to be judged strictly by its epic appearance, then it might fit the bill, but this is a volume that is dedicated to design, craftsmanship, individuality, and heritage. All of these qualities are examined within the confines of an association aptly named The Grands Ateliers of France.

A bit of background might entice the curious reader to delve deeper into the histories, specialties, and extraordinary talents of 68 artisans who possess 90 disciplines that are of the most unexpected and esoteric varieties. These artists/designers/craftsmen and in some cases geniuses are called upon by private clientele including designers of every conceivable arena, museums, learning institutions, and antiquarian entity around the world. To be admitted into this world is a rare treat for the reader with interests that go beyond the superficial beauty of fashion and design.

Monsieur Bergeron and Madame Laulhère provide the inquisitive reader with just enough information concerning the inimitable skills of these 68 artisans with a very concise explanation of each followed by lushly photographed examples of their works.

Without question this is a book that will invite you back time and time again as there is so much to digest and so much to learn about these people who belong to a world that very few of us will ever experience except unknowingly in a museum, a restaurant, a fashion show, or even while sightseeing in a foreign country.

Recommend it? Yes! And once in your possession this will be a coveted book in your fashion library.
