In a business and in cities that worship the newest, the latest the greatest and the youngest, there remains one person, one woman who defies it all. Lori Goldstein’s brand of under the radar or behind the scenes notoriety has come by way of sheer talent, vision, extensive resume and now, longevity. Lori Goldstein defies the popular wisdom that one’s experience is not always a passport to success.

In many of my reviews, a key word is educational but here it will be traded in for informational as the talents that have been honed by Ms. Goldstein are not taught by example. The talents Ms. Goldstein uses in her everyday work evince an innately well trained eye. Call her a prodigy but never call her hackneyed or old or boring; she is a stylist in the truest sense of the word, creating some of the most memorable and iconic images of the last 25 years.

If there is anything to be learned from Lori Goldstein: Style Is Instinct it is simply that Lori Goldstein exemplifies and clearly defines what it means to be a stylist. In our times, the word has been loosely bandied about to connote a person who picks out borrowed clothes for some half-baked starlet and nothing can be further from the truth with Lori Goldstein. When it comes to Lori, you might want to think in terms of the glory days of Diana Vreeland.

“When people talk about my signature style, they are usually referring to clashing colors, multihued layers and vibrant prints. The uniqueness of the small things is what makes me smile, and the intricacy of details is what draws my eye.”

The clearest explanation of this can only be proven by viewing the excruciatingly beautiful body of work that belongs to Ms. Goldstein. Yes, it doesn’t hurt that she works with the masters of 21st century photography, but they merely clarify her image and vision.

The blasé fashionphile will be exhilarated, the novice will be awed and even those who have no link or love of fashion can just marvel at what can be interpreted as the portfolio of one of the great talents of our time in fashion editorial and advertising.
