“A gripping medical drama with diverse characters, a riveting plot, and additional subplots highlight Dr. Mabry’s extensive medical knowledge.”

Dr. Sara Miles of University Hospital is tending to Chelsea Ferguson, a young female patient suffering from a serious infection. This is not just any infection, but Staph Luciferus, termed by doctors as “The Killer” because this bacterium is resistant to all current antibiotics. Desperate to save Chelsea’s life, Sara turns to her ex-husband, Dr. Jack Ingersoll, who is developing an experimental drug with the potential to eradicate these deadly bacteria.

Though still in the testing phase and not yet been cleared through the FDA, the medication’s successes, not known to anyone but its creators, are known to Sara. She also realizes this may be Chelsea’s only hope for survival.

Dr. Rip Pearson, a friend and colleague of Sara’s, works with Jack on the development of this new product knowing the other patients in this trial have benefited from this. Sara and Rip enroll Chelsea into the protocol and administer the drug, called, EpAm848, to her. Within a short time, Chelsea’s condition turns around, and she is out of the woods.

Ecstatic about Chelsea’s increasing improvement, Sara becomes distraught a few days later when the girl develops a serious side effect caused by EpAm848.

Rip and Sara dig through patient files of others on the trial and find that even though this medicine is 100% effective at killing Staph Luciferus, it can very well trigger an autoimmune condition—a condition often as serious as the infection.

Sara, not wanting to deal with her ex, but needing his knowledge to help her patient, tries to learn more from Jack about his new discovery. Meanwhile, Rip questions the lab assistant handling the protocol. They both come away without any answers for this protocol is considered highly confidential. It is being kept hush-hush, with the premise that if word got out, other drug companies would try to lay claim to it.

But Jack is aligned with the failing Jandra Pharmaceutical Company, and they will stop at nothing to make millions from his new invention. Jandra even renames the product Jandramycin hoping to gain the glory from this medical breakthrough.

When Sara is shot and Rip is forced off the road, it is evident someone is trying to prevent them from their snooping. Will the truth come out or will they continue to risk their lives for answers?
