“A brilliant job of engaging even the most reluctant reader, showing how much fun a book can be.”

Please Don’t Read This Book is Deanna Kizis’ first children’s book, something you would never guess from how clearly she understands young readers. The story starts with Sam Boughton’s engaging blob warning the reader not to read the book, not to turn the pages, not to have any fun whatsoever. Of course, who could resist those rules? Certainly not the intended audience, who will gleefully make fart noises, funny faces, and have a lot of fun breaking the rules in the way the author clearly intends.

The energy of the art extends even to the lettering, the whole look of the book working to engage the reader in a highly interactive reading experience. Nobody could possibly be bored reading this book. Instead, kids will demand to read the book over and over again. Kizis and Boughton have teamed up to do a brilliant job of engaging even the most reluctant reader, showing how much fun a book can be.

One warning, though. This is a book that will energize children, filling them with laughter. It does a brilliant job of engaging even the most reluctant reader, showing how much fun a book can be.

Please Don’t Read This Book is not recommended for bedtime reading, but it’s a perfect way to start the day.
