“Vogue: The Editors Eye is a visual treat. Very tastefully executed in every way, shape, and form.”

Vogue: The Editor’s Eye is one of the several books published this year to celebrate the anniversary of Vogue magazine. This latest entry is also skewed toward the reign of Ms. Wintour.

Vogue: The Editor’s Eye provides a crash course on the power of fashion and those involved behind the scenes. Of particular interest are profiles of Polly Mellen, Babs Simpson, Carlyne de Dudzeele, and Jade Hobson who were so deeply responsible for the panache that became the groundwork and framework of the Anna Wintour era of Vogue magazine.

Not much ink has ever been given to these irreplaceable, mega-talented women who above all had a vision of fashion in the pre-celebrity and early beginnings of the super model age of Vogue. These women also fostered the talents of some of the greatest photographers and designers of the 20th century.

After reading the very informative, amusing, and enlightening profiles of each of the celebrated editors, one cannot help but notice that the most iconic images are segregated to the times that came way before the era of “Nuclear” Wintour.

Unfortunately, the well-educated fashionista will notice that Mrs. Vreeland is barely given lip service for her contributions, leading this reader to assume that Ms. Wintour has an inferiority complex when it comes to the subject of the legendary Diana Vreeland and her contributions.

One might also take note of the fact that all the subjects of this epic volume are women despite the fact that there are several extremely high profile and mega talented men involved in shaping Vogue into an international fashion bible. Once again, this might only occur to those who are very well informed on the subject of fashion and the magazines that propelled a seemingly minor profession into a business that became the bellwether for a significant sector of the economy.

The book must be read to be fully appreciated for content beyond the gorgeous photography. The big picture on this coffee table tome is simply that it contains something for everyone, from the novice to the seasoned professional or even the jaded fashionista.

Vogue: The Editors Eye is a visual treat. Very tastefully executed in every way, shape, and form.
