Two-Fisted Tweets

Reviewed by Renee C. Fountain | Released: February 24, 2011

Not since Scott Huot and GW Brazier’s Not Proud: A Smorgasbord of Shame and Rachel Fershleiser and Larry Smith’s Not Quite What I Was Planning: Six Word Memoirs by Writers Famous and Obscure, have so few words, said so much.

In Two-Fisted Tweets James Hutchings has utilized the 140-character Tweet platform to create 30 stories of horror, romance, and science fiction.

Hutchings’ brief verses conjure up full-fledged images that visually expound on the scene that has been set. Reading like the pivotal point in a novel, such stanzas as:

“The baby had its mother’s eyes. In return for obedience, it promised to give them back.”
and
“They withdrew his invitation to speak at the conference on stalking. But he knew they didn’t mean it.”

are not only brilliantly engineered to get maximum impact, but open the flood-gates of possibility for the continuation and ultimate outcome of each story.
Though Two-Fisted Tweets takes only minutes to read, the lasting effects of James Hutchings’ incredibly creative wit and humor provides hours of reflective entertainment and appreciation long after the final line has been read.
